Canadian businesses provide significant support to charitable and nonprofit community organizations. Surprisingly little is known about the ways in which such support is provided and the experiences businesses have when contributing to their communities. The Business Contributions to Community Research Initiative (BCTC) focuses exclusively on the community contributions of Canadian businesses, providing a broad picture of the scope and nature of these efforts, as well as benchmark data to enable the tracking of contributions over time.
New Research on Corporate Citizenship from Imagine Canada puts a spotlight on 93 of Canada’s largest companies (annual revenues exceeding $25 million) and their community investment practices. The second phase of this research initiative is a national survey of business contributions that aims to collect information from 2,400 businesses across Canada : Corporate Community Investment Practices, Motivations & Challenges: Findings from the Canada Survey of Business Contributions to Community. The first phase of the study was a literature review and roundtable consultations with 47 representatives of Canadian businesses. The results of this qualitative phase were released in February 2007.
